Warnings and Alerts
Grand Valley is committed to the safety of our students, faculty and staff.
We encourage you to sign up for the GVSUAlert! Emergency Notification System. Alerts are automatically sent to your email, but you can easily add your primary mobile number to receive text alerts. Faculty and Staff will add their mobile phone in Workday while students will add by logging into Banner. You may also add other phone numbers by visiting puf7.al10669.com/gvsualert.
There are mainly three types of notifications that we send:
Timely Warning
Universities are required by federal law to notify the campus community whenever there is a continuing or ongoing threat so members of the campus community can protect themselves from harm. Examples include but are not limited to: criminal homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, arson, or any other crime fitting the criteria.
Emergency Notification
Universities are required by federal law to notify the campus community of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of the on campus community. Examples include but are not limited to: canceling class or closing the university due to extreme weather conditions, serious illnesses, or active shooters.
Safety Notice
Grand Valley may elect to issue a safety notice to members of the university when it is determined there is a reoccurring series of criminal activity, a disruption to operations or incidents occurring off university grounds that impact the campus community. Examples include but are not limited to: criminal activity, utility outage or other safety related incidents.
